Nicaragua's Granada
Volcan Mombacho Natural Reserve
This unique cloud forest reserve has only been open to visitors for a relatively short period of time, but its wealth of treasures offers no shortage of discoveries. Marked by a mile long hike around the verdant crater of the dormant Mombacho Volcano, the Volcan Mombacho Natural Reserve presents a diverse wonderland of more than 450 species of plants, 87 varieties of orchids and 118 species of birds for visitors to explore.
Among these species, find a salamander, two orchids and a butterfly unique to this one location. Should the diverse wildlife, or the hike to get there, be not enough to take your breath away, then the superior views offered by a 4440ft perch in the sky should effectively finish the job.
