In size, Masaya City is little more than an overgrown village, however in heart, this Nicaraguan gem resonates a robust flavor of tradition. Widely considered the cradle of folklore, Masaya is Central America’s beloved crafts center, where the streets ring with 19th century open air markets, and every thoroughfare in the indigenous Monimbo neighborhood is home to at least one artisan workshop.
While the artisans of Masaya are best known for their hammocks, these adroit hands also create exquisite leather, wood and fabric treasures, as well as numerous products that wear the name of Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, and even Guatemala.
